Story County supervisors approve Pride Month proclamation, consent agenda including Lexipol contract and JAG grant; receive ARPA and childcare reports

The Board read and approved a proclamation recognizing June 2026 as LGBTQIA+ Pride Month; the motion to approve was made by Supervisor Latifah Faisal and seconded by Supervisor Lisa Heddens and carried unanimously.
Barb Mittman presented Nevada Food at First’s annual American Rescue Plan Act report, covering the organization’s history, communities served, retail partners for donated food, staffing, policies and procedures, and its strategic plan for ARPA funds. No formal action was recorded on the report.
Storytime Child Care Center Director Mandy Lindemoen presented the center’s annual report, noting staffing and enrollment trends and identifying Susie Rhoades as the interim assistant director. The Board then approved several fiscal and contract items as part of the consent agenda.
Consent-agenda approvals included: a Master Service Agreement with Lexipol LLC for law enforcement policy manuals and training materials to be paid over three years, totaling $83,008.64 (FY27 $26,331.05; FY28 $27,647.61; FY29 $29,029.98); acceptance of an Iowa Byrne Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) award to Story County for $54,000 for FY27; multiple FY27 provider and program participation agreements (including funding caps for Story Time Child Care Center and Youth and Shelter Services programs); software and licensing renewals; service and maintenance agreements; and the setting of a public hearing (Resolution #26-95) for Hickory Grove Beach improvements to be heard June 23, 2026. The claims docket of $706,803.16 (run date 5/29/26; 29 pages) was approved and the Auditor was authorized to issue checks and specified fund payments.
The Board approved several special-event applications and agreed to participate in and sponsor the Juneteenth Celebration for Ames and Story County on June 13, 2026, at a $1,000 sponsorship level. Supervisors provided liaison and committee updates and the Board adjourned at 10:42 a.m.
