Story County opens bids for CJ Shreck water-trail access and Deppe Family Conservation Area work

On June 2, 2026, Story County conservation staff opened contractor bids for two conservation construction projects.
Conservation Director Mike Cox and Special Projects Ranger Pat Shehan announced the bids for the CJ Shreck Water Trail access improvements. Hands On Excavation of Radcliffe submitted the low bid at $149,554.60; Gehrke, Inc., of Eldora bid $161,565.25. Cox told the Board the bids will be reviewed and staff will return with a recommendation on award.
The Board also heard bids for work at the Deppe Family Conservation Area. Four bids were recorded: GTG Construction LLC (Des Moines) $375,653.77; Caliber Concrete LLC (Adair) $377,370.65; HPC, LLC (Ames) $422,032.00; and Woodruff Construction (Ames) $502,300.00. Cox said he will evaluate the bids against project specifications and bring a recommendation to the Board in a future meeting.
No contract awards were made at the June 2 meeting; opening bids is the formal procurement step that permits county staff to complete technical review, check bid bonds and references, and recommend a contract or reject bids. The Board did not take a vote on contract awards during the session.
Next steps: staff review and recommendation to the Board, followed by a formal award and contract approval if a bidder is selected.
