York County planners honor departing Chair Michael King for decade of service

Tim Cross, who said he retired from the county's planning and development services in March 2024, recounted working with King over three decades and recalled an anecdote in which King — facing a difficult planning challenge — said, "Why do I bother?" and then, "Darn it, because I care," a line Cross used to illustrate King's devotion to public service. The commission presented King with a plaque and a resolution commending his service.
King thanked his colleagues and the public, urged residents to attend meetings when issues affect them, and expressed appreciation for his family and fellow commissioners. Staff and commissioners noted King's leadership during the lengthy comprehensive-plan process and thanked him for his contributions to the county planning work.
This was an official recognition; no formal policy actions were taken as part of the tribute.
