Wyoming Valley West students and staff present music highlights and thank board for memorial bench

At the start of its June 10 meeting the Wyoming Valley West School Board heard presentations from orchestra and band staff and students who described a year of performances, festival placements and a memorial bench project supported by the district and local partners.
Mrs. Hall, introduced herself as the sixth–eighth grade orchestra director and said the bench commemorates two students who were killed in a Feb. 12 fire. "We would not have been able to complete this project so quickly if it wasn't for your help," she told the board and presented a photograph of the finished bench.
Band director Mrs. Schneider introduced several student speakers who summarized the year's accomplishments. Eighth-grade student Micah Barrett said nearly 120 students performed in two major concerts this year and highlighted repertoire including selections from Home Alone and Firebird. "It was exciting to see how much progress everyone had made in such a short time," Barrett said.
Other students described regional festivals and honors: Michaela Kelly noted district students placed in regional honor groups; Patrick (last name not provided) recounted the band's invitation to perform at a regional All-State event and the standing ovation the group received. Students and staff thanked the district and community partners — including maintenance staff and local businesses — for helping assemble the bench and supporting music programs.
What’s next: The board received the presentations and publicly thanked the students and staff. Several board members expressed appreciation and congratulated the Class of 2026 later in the meeting.
