Board members praised the students' academic accomplishments and community involvement. One board member recounted how Anthony delayed notifying family of his salutatorian status to avoid interrupting them, and the room applauded the honorees.
Later in the meeting, the board heard presentations on the middle school capstone project tied to New York State's Seal of Civic Readiness. A social studies presenter described a seventh‑grade capstone in which students researched community issues, carried out actions or wrote detailed action plans, and presented their projects. About 60% of nearly 300 students earned the middle‑school capstone point this year, putting them a step closer to earning the Seal upon high school graduation. Student presenters highlighted projects on stray animals, homelessness and community service.
