Board members asked whether the abatement cost was added to the project; staff said the cost was part of the overall project but had to be recorded on a separate check and not under professional services.
One board member recounted the contractor reading a standard lead-based paint safety statement aloud and expressed surprise that asbestos statements were not required to be read in the same way. Staff said mockups of restroom designs, paint and tile selections are complete and contractors are ready to begin pending the lab results.
Next steps: staff will report air-test results when received and begin demolition work if results are clear and insurance conditions are satisfied.
