The Lake County Schools Board approved a set of out-of-state and overnight field trips for the 2026–27 school year, including a weeklong invitation for the baseball team to the Gulf Coast Classic during spring break.
Mike, who presented the schedule of athletic events, told the board most trips are short-distance play for county or city tournaments; the notable exception is the spring break baseball tournament that draws teams from across the country. Staff said the district will minimize costs by coordinating parent carpooling and shared travel rather than district-paid overnight transportation in many cases.
"Our baseball team got invited to the Gulf Coast Classic during spring break next March—32 teams from across the country," Mike said, describing the tournament’s competitive level and prior participation. Jody moved to approve the out-of-state and overnight trips, Vivian seconded, and the motion carried on roll call.
Next steps: coaches and staff will finalize logistics, and the board may review any additional late additions in a future meeting.
