The Lake County Schools Board of Education voted June 8 to adopt the HealthSmart digital health curriculum and to purchase district access for students and teachers.
Tara, who led the curriculum review, told the board teachers reviewed the materials and parents were offered an opportunity to comment. She explained the district will provide access through the Clever portal and that students will be able to access assigned work at home. Board members noted the state law changed recently to allow an eight-year adoption cycle (previously six years), so the district is pursuing an eight‑year licensing arrangement.
"Yes, it's a tile on the Clever portal that we use for all of our curriculum," Tara said when asked how students would access the material at school and at home. Board member Vivian made the motion to approve the recommendation and Jody seconded; a roll call vote approved the adoption.
What happens next: staff will finalize licensing details and implement access for teachers and students under the approved multi-year arrangement.
