Town Administrator Deborah Potter explained that Matthew Rossi left last week and that Petkus, a former local inspector who trained alongside Rossi, had the necessary certification to serve in the acting role. Assistant Town Administrator Wendy Brough added that Petkus will handle certificates of occupancy and commercial issues beyond the local inspector’s scope.
Select Person Sean DeBettencourt moved to appoint Petkus; the motion was seconded by Select Person Emma Green‑Beach and passed on a 4–0 roll call vote. The board said Petkus’ familiarity with town operations and policies made him an appropriate interim choice while recruitment proceeds.
Next steps: the town will continue recruitment for a full‑time Building Commissioner while Petkus serves in the interim.
