Economic development update: library locker wrap, Tractor Discovery Day and retail outreach

MONEE — At the June 10 board meeting Economic Development Director Bill Barnes and Trustee Wilson described economic activity in the village and previewed a design concept for an outdoor library locker co‑branded with the Pietone Public Library District.

Barnes said the locker — an automated pickup unit for library holds — will be wrapped with vinyl artwork that references local history; the design concept includes large bookmark graphics and historic photos provided by the historical society. Barnes said the library district (Pietone Public Library District, PPLD) and local designers collaborated on the concept and that a book‑return box could also be decorated. He said final art will be reviewed with the board and library staff before installation.

Trustee Wilson also highlighted upcoming local events and business activity: Tractor Supply will host "Tractor Discovery Day" on June 20 and several businesses are preparing to occupy the former Whiting building. Barnes recounted outreach at a national retail convention and said a Kroger representative contacted him after the trade show; he described the contact as an initial follow‑up rather than a firm commitment.

Barnes said the locker and the wrap are intended to boost civic identity and help library access; he noted the village will coordinate final approvals with the library district.
