Asbury Park council approves data-center moratorium resolution, FEMA grant application and several ordinances

At its meeting, the Asbury Park City Council approved several resolutions and ordinances that the mayor and council said were routine but of municipal consequence.
The council adopted resolution 2026‑264 urging the governor and New Jersey Legislature to impose a moratorium on new data-center construction and asked for a temporary pause on related applications within Asbury Park. The resolution passed by unanimous roll-call vote (Councilmembers Bezerson, Chapman and Clayton and the mayor voting yes).
The council also approved two items added to the agenda: resolution 2026‑265 authorizing the Asbury Park Fire Department to apply for fiscal‑year 2025 FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant funding, and resolution 2026‑266 establishing kayak‑rack rental rules (changed to "residents only"). On ordinances, the council introduced bond ordinance 2026‑11 appropriating $541,000 for beach equipment and set its public hearing for June 24, 2026. Council pulled ordinance 2026‑12 from the agenda.
