The North Pocono School District Board of Education on June 10 approved the district’s final 2026–27 budget, adopting $73,138,934 in expenditures and $71,921,831 in projected revenues and authorizing up to $1,271,217 from the district’s fund balance to close the gap.
The budget vote included tax-rate adjustments tied to county millage changes: the Lackawanna County real-estate tax rate was listed as 12.420 mills (a 5% increase) and the Wayne County real-estate tax rate as 14.9370 mills (a 3.83% increase). The board also recorded that the earned income tax and the real-estate transfer tax would remain at 0.5% and 0.5%, respectively.
During roll call on the motion, Dr. Herd voted no, as did Mrs. Walsh and Mr. Bracy; Mr. Jennings, Mrs. Meros, Mrs. Mlan, Mr. Powell and Mr. Wolf voted yes, yielding a 5–3 approval. The finance motion and supporting materials were presented in attachment C as part of the meeting packet.
Board members who opposed the measure recorded “no” votes on the public roll call but did not make extended on-the-record remarks in the meeting transcript. The board’s action means the district will implement the adopted spending plan and the specified tax rates for the 2026–27 fiscal year unless revised in a subsequent public meeting.
Next steps: the board authorized related procedural resolutions and ratification steps during the meeting; the board is slated to reconvene with a work session on Aug. 10 and a regular meeting on Aug. 12, 2026, when routine follow-up and administrative items will be considered.
