Worth County board approves AFSCME contract, awards $86,740 drainage bid and clears $548,341 in claims

By motion of Mark Smeby seconded by A.J. Stone the board awarded the Drainage District #46 contract to A1 Excavating & Drainage Inc.; the only bid received was $86,740.00. In the same series of motions the board approved the claims docket totaling $548,341.64, and approved monthly reports for the sheriff and clerk of court.
The board also approved Resolution 2026‑15, accepting a collective bargaining agreement between Worth County (Sheriff’s Office) and Iowa AFSCME Council 61 effective July 1, 2024 through July 1, 2029. The resolution was adopted by roll call vote with the three supervisors recorded as Aye.
Other routine approvals included renewal of a Class “C” Retail Alcohol License for The Stock Tank LLC, acknowledgment of a manure management plan update for Dalluge Turkey Farm #14345, approval to use the courthouse grounds June 26–July 5 for the 11th Annual 99 County Bible Reading and a proclamation recognizing the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence presented by the Helen Hinman Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
The motions on these items carried unanimously, and the board recessed briefly at 8:58 a.m. before reconvening to conduct the election canvass.
