The Finance Committee on June 9 recommended that the Common Council approve a CIP amendment and contract award for a full reconstruction of Racetrack Road, a project that runs from County Highway A to Highway 51 and is being cost-shared with the town of Dunkirk.
Bids were reported as significantly more favorable than expected, producing a net fiscal impact (savings) of about $311,473. Staff said Strand and Associates (engineers) have worked with RG Houston & Sons previously and recommended awarding the contract to that firm. Committee members asked whether curb and gutter would be installed where the city owns the property; staff confirmed curb and gutter will be added on city-owned sections and asphalt shoulders on township-owned sections to match existing conditions.
Staff also noted a bid alternative to add asphalt to an existing gravel roadway into the park came in within budget and was recommended for approval. The committee moved, seconded and voted to recommend the CIP amendment and contract award to the Common Council.
Next step: Council consideration of the contract award and CIP amendment; staff will coordinate construction staging with the town of Dunkirk and engineers.
