DuPage County proclaims June 2026 LGBTQ+ Pride Month; College of DuPage Pride Alliance recognized

Deborah Conroy, chair of the DuPage County Board, opened the meeting by reading a proclamation recognizing June 2026 as LGBTQ+ Pride Month and asking the board to "support the visibility, dignity, and equality" of LGBTQ+ residents.

The proclamation, which the board approved by voice, invited student leaders and community partners to the podium. Genevie Scarboro, identified in the meeting as representing Neighbor Pride, and a representative from the College of DuPage Pride Alliance accepted the recognition and described the alliance as a "relaxing safe space" that provides education, advocacy and social connection for students.

Herman Meta of Neighbor Pride gave the invocation before the proclamation and urged the board to consider the impact of policy on historically oppressed people: "I urge you when you're making decisions today, please think about how they will elevate the people who have been historically oppressed." The Pride Alliance speaker who accepted the proclamation said the group had doubled average attendance and expanded events, calling the club "a safe space to be themselves."

The proclamation cites the Stonewall uprising as the movement'level origin of Pride observances and encourages county residents to reflect on inclusion and civic engagement. Chair Conroy and members of the board encouraged continued partnerships with College of DuPage and local Pride organizations.

The board approved the proclamation as part of the opening portion of the meeting; no formal vote count was reported beyond the voice approval during the session.
