The New Castle Tree Advisory Commission voted June 1 to approve a pruning request to prevent branches from a tree at 212 E. 2nd Street from overhanging and touching the neighboring house at 214 E. 2nd.
Chair Edward Ryan called for discussion after S2 described the application and explained that although the tree’s trunk sits at 212, the limbs extend over the petitioner’s property at 214. "The branches are hanging over her house of 214 — I mean, they're touching her house over there," S2 said, urging pruning to eliminate the contact. S1 seconded the motion and the commission approved it by voice vote.
The commission recommended that Public Works perform the pruning at 212 E. 2nd. No members recorded opposition during the voice vote.
The action resolves the immediate property complaint; the commission did not record additional conditions on the pruning. Chair Ryan said the recommendation and the vote would be included in the commission’s follow-up report to the city.
