Marion County supervisors adopt FY26 budget amendment, appropriate major increases for public health and roads

The Marion County Board of Supervisors unanimously adopted Budget Amendment #1 for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2025, after opening and closing a public hearing with no public comment on May 26, 2026.

The board passed Resolution 2026-67 adopting the amendment and then approved Resolution 2026-68 to appropriate funds across departments to implement the amendment. The board cited Iowa Code 331.435 as the governing statute for publishing and adopting the amendment.

Under the appropriations approved in Res. 2026-68, major amended allocations include $1,470,000 for Public Health and $700,000 for Secondary Road. Other line items approved in the amendment included Sheriff—Memorial $5,000; Sheriff—Security $21,000; Court Services $67,500; Conservation $20,000; Conservation—Trust $2,116; Development $12,000; and Non-Departmental $1,361,000. The board approved these appropriations on a motion moved by Supervisor Steve McCombs and seconded by Supervisor Jim Mueller; the roll call was Ayes: McCombs, Jahner, Mueller; Nays: none.

The public hearing on the budget amendment was opened by Chair Kisha Jahner at 9:01 A.M. and closed at 9:03 A.M. with the board noting there were no public comments. The county reported that publication requirements under Iowa Code 331.435 were met through notice in the Marion County Express.

No additional public testimony or alternate appropriation figures were introduced at the meeting. The board did not set any new deadlines or additional review steps during the session. The amendment and appropriations take effect per the fiscal calendar for FY2025–2026.
