Middleton board approves fees, travel, clubs and handbook updates in June meeting

The Middleton District school board used voice votes to approve several routine but consequential items during its June 8 meeting, including fee increases, extracurricular approvals and handbook updates.
The board approved a proposed increase in student meal prices (examples given in the presentation: elementary lunches moving toward $3.60, middle-school lunches to $3.75, high-school lunches to $3.85 and milk to $0.75) after staff said rising food, delivery and fuel costs made the change necessary. The board also approved an athletics season-pass increase (single: $100 to $150; couple: $200 to $250; family: $250 to $300) to better cover game costs such as referees and jerseys.
On extracurricular items, the board approved permission for summer camps to use the school’s football pads per IHSAA rules, approved a short-turnaround student trip to Orlando for a national student-leadership conference (fundraising covers most student costs and two staff will attend), and approved a new middle-school cheer club that will be student-focused and volunteer-supported.
The board also approved handbooks for Purple Sage, Mil Creek, Middleton Academy and Middleton High School. In addition, a long list of district policies was moved to third reading by board motion.
All motions were carried by voice vote as recorded in the meeting transcript.
