Board approves bid to replace Wood River Middle School track, work planned for late summer

The board approved accepting a bid to replace the Wood River Middle School track at its June 9 meeting.
Director Benyan said the existing track is original to the 1996 middle-school construction and shows wear that raises injury concerns. The replacement plan calls for removing existing asphalt, recompacting the base, adding about 2.5 inches of new asphalt, installing the synthetic track surface and painting lines. Administration proposed using previous plant-facility levy funds or levy-forgiveness funds made available by the legislature for facilities work. Construction timing outlined in the meeting packet and discussion shows asphalt work could begin in late July, with the track surface going down in August and paint completed by early September.
The motion to accept the recommended bid was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote. Administration will finalize contract documents and coordinate the vendor schedule with school calendars and athletic needs.
Next steps: Facilities will execute the contract, coordinate logistics with athletics and provide construction progress updates to the board.
