The Montgomery County Board of Commissioners on June 11 approved several routine items including board appointments, contract awards and the commissioner's personnel list while a resident used public comment to press the board for greater budget clarity on large capital line items.
During the meeting, the board approved reappointments to the Agricultural Land Preservation Board, appointments to the Valley Forge Tourism and Convention Board and appointments to the Montgomery County Women's Commission by voice votes. The board also approved advertising bids and RFPs (Exhibit A), contract awards, amendments and renewals (Exhibit B), and awards relating to the Southeast Pennsylvania Regional Task Force (Exhibit C).
David Morgan of Ambler used public comment to question a capital request listed as $592,000 for Clerk of Courts and District Attorney scanning, saying "This is gonna raise the total contract to $3,600,000." He also referenced an ongoing Justice Center project and various estimates that he said could push costs into the hundreds of millions, and urged the board to defer approvals until a fuller budget update is provided.
Chair responded that staff will provide a budget update at the next board meeting. Commissioners defended the need to replace worn furniture on occasion, saying replacement items are often unavoidable when existing assets have reached end of life.
The board moved and approved the commissioner's personnel list as presented by Marty (presenter listed in the record with variant spellings) and carried motions to approve the bids and contract exhibits. The meeting included a separate salary board session in which the salary board approved its list and adjourned.
Next steps: Staff said a budget update will be scheduled for the next board meeting to address the items raised by public commenters.
