Commissioners approve two FY 2025-26 budget amendments covering insurance, wages and operating costs

During the April 27, 2026 special meeting, County Finance Officer Brandi Burleson presented two budget amendments for the 2025-26 fiscal year. The board voted unanimously to approve both measures.

Budget Amendment #4 included a $350,000 increase to current-year property tax revenue lines (Appendix B) to reconcile anticipated receipts with expenditures. The amendment was moved by Commissioner Mark Ledford and seconded by Commissioner David Grindstaff; the board approved the motion unanimously.

Budget Amendment #5 (Appendix C) listed a wide range of line-item increases across county departments. Notable increases included additional allocations for health insurance in multiple departments (examples include $18,594; $27,401; and several smaller amounts listed in Appendix C), wage increases and temporary-pay allocations (multiple entries, including $93,600 and other department wage lines), capital and equipment items (including $30,000 for equipment and multiple smaller capital lines), and contingency and operating adjustments. The amendment also lists increases for service and maintenance contracts, training, postage and utilities across departments. Commissioner Sandi Norton moved to approve Amendment #5 with Commissioner David Grindstaff seconding; the motion carried unanimously.

The amendments were presented as adjustments to reconcile and address mid-year needs; the board did not attach additional conditions to their approvals during the meeting. Appendix B and Appendix C in the meeting packet provide the detailed line-item entries; a total summed amount for Amendment #5 is not provided in the meeting text.
