Forest Grove board dedicates library to outgoing director Kate Trendeski after 15 years

The Forest Grove School District Board of Directors paused regular business on June 9 to honor outgoing director Kate for 15 years of service to the district. Community members and board colleagues praised her longtime advocacy for literacy, library funding and student supports.
Valerie Ingram, a community member, and multiple board directors spoke about Kate’s steady commitment to libraries, support for students with dyslexia and volunteer work; Erica Diaz and others also referenced volunteer efforts in the district. In a prepared remark, Dr. West said Kate’s board service 'didn’t begin on the school board' and highlighted that Kate’s advocacy for literacy made it fitting to dedicate the space. "On behalf of the Forest Grove School District Board of Directors, staff, and families, it is my honor to dedicate this space as the Kate Tandeski Library," the superintendent said.
Kate addressed the board, reflected on community work and read a short audio excerpt and closing messages about hope and community action. The board recessed for 15 minutes to reveal the plaque, hold a brief reception and offer treats; directors also presented Kate with books (Spanish and English) to gift to families and other tokens of appreciation.
Next steps: The plaque and library signage will remain in place; the district invited public viewing during the recess and will continue to recognize Kate’s contributions in district communications.
