"I was asked to leave" the treasurer's office when he sought information, McCascal said, and he asked council staff to have the county attorney contact him. Council members directed staff to make that contact.
Later in the public‑comment period, William Holland addressed rumors that an AI data center could locate in Kershaw County. Holland urged council to prepare a local ordinance or resolution to block data centers, saying they will "create maybe three jobs," will raise electricity bills by increasing local demand, and can cause noise and water impacts. He asked the council to act preemptively rather than wait for a proposal.
Council members acknowledged the concerns raised in public comment and asked staff to follow up — specifically instructing the county administrator or attorney to contact McCascal about his property concern. No formal action on data‑center policy was taken at the meeting; members noted that legal and regulatory limits exist and asked staff to provide additional information in future meetings.
