Gardner‑Webb University President Nate Evans provided the Town Council with a campus update, reporting recent fundraising and partnerships that the university says will support student housing, athletic and academic upgrades.
Evans said the university secured a $1.5 million commitment toward renovations to the Myers and Spangler dormitories, locker room and academic upgrades, and a complete overhaul of the football center weight room. He also reported that Double Dog Day, the university’s fundraising event, generated $2.5 million in commitments. Evans announced a new dual‑enrollment agreement with Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy and said a new community relations representative, Jeff Cogburn, will join the university in July.
Evans celebrated the FBLA team’s state championship and noted the team will attend the national competition in Las Vegas. He also described an ROTC event that brought cadets from regional universities to campus to compete for the German Army Proficiency Badge.
Mayor Greene accepted the report and distributed commemorative cups to council members on behalf of Gardner‑Webb in recognition of President Evans’ inauguration.
