South Plainfield board affirms HIB findings, upholds disciplinary and residency decisions after executive session

Following an executive session, the South Plainfield Board of Education read and then voted to affirm three resolutions that the board said were supported by administrative findings and evidence.

The first resolution affirmed prior administrative findings in a disciplinary/appeal matter (case numbers read during the meeting) and directed that the parents receive a written decision and information on their right to appeal to the Commissioner of Education.

The second resolution affirmed findings of HIB (harassment, intimidation or bullying, as defined by district policy and law) in a referenced student case and directed the superintendent and board secretary to provide the family with a written decision and information about appeal rights.

The third resolution addressed residency hearings for multiple students (the board read specific student identification numbers). The board found the students were not domiciled in the district, disenrolled those students, and assessed tuition for the period of ineligible attendance; the superintendent was directed to notify the families of the decision.

All three resolutions were added to the agenda, then affirmed by roll‑call vote. The board recorded affirmative roll‑call responses from the members present; after the votes the board adjourned.

The board read the case and student numbers into the record during the public meeting; families were to receive written notice and information about their appeal rights. Because the matters were discussed in executive session, the board summarized the outcomes publicly without discussion of evidentiary details.
