The Queen Anne's County Commissioners adopted Resolution 26‑06 on June 9 to establish the fiscal year 2027 budget and appropriations. The operating budget was presented as balanced without use of fund balance. Key tax rates approved in the motion were: countywide real property tax rate 0.80 per $100 of assessed value; differential rates for Centerville (0.667) and Millington (0.715); public utility personal property tax $2.00 per $100; and the income tax rate remaining 3.2%.
At the meeting the finance director noted staff added a $700,000 local match to secure state grant funding tied to a Queen Anne's County Detention Center project. During the same session, a commissioner moved—and the board agreed—that staff draft a budget amendment to allocate an additional $500,000 to the Board of Education to fund two district‑wide rotating behaviorists and four middle school mental‑health support staff; the amendment was to be presented for a vote on July 14.
Commissioners said mental‑health concerns in schools were a recurring theme in budget hearings and the proposed amendment responds to that community input.
