Thomaston — The Planning and Zoning Commission handled a series of procedural items on June 3: it accepted an accessory-dwelling application and set a public hearing, authorized staff to prepare a report recommending town acceptance of two privately held but town-maintained roads, tabled the May 6 minutes for lack of quorum, and set a special meeting to consider text amendments recommended by the Connecticut Municipal Development Authority (CMDA).
Accessory dwelling unit: The commission accepted an application from James Wilson to convert part of an existing barn at 411 Lynchfield Street into a one-bedroom accessory apartment and set a public hearing for July 1 (applicant-present materials will be posted ahead of the hearing).
8-24 road referral: Staff briefed commissioners on an 8-24 referral to accept Terrace Road and Grove Heights — both private roads that the town has been maintaining. The commission voted to authorize staff to prepare a formal report to the first selectman’s office recommending acceptance; that referral will go to town meeting for final action.
CMDA recommendation and special meeting: Staff described CMDA recommendations to align a new 'housing growth' zone with the downtown development district to make the town eligible for a limited pot of funding. Commissioners agreed the funding window is time-sensitive and set a special meeting for June 15 at 5:00 p.m. to pursue a zoning text amendment.
Minutes and adjournment: The minutes of the May 6 meeting were tabled until July 1 because of attendance/quorum issues. The commission adjourned at 8:19 p.m.
