Planning commission sets July public hearing on food-truck cluster rules

Thomaston — The Planning and Zoning Commission on June 3 agreed to hold a public hearing in July on a draft amendment that would create a new regulation authorizing food-truck clusters and parks.
Staff presented a new section that would allow more than one food truck on a property with special-permit approval, remove or relax rigid seasonal operating windows, and permit the commission to set conditions on hours of operation, parking, traffic mitigation and renewal frequency.
"If someone wants to have on a property two or more food trucks, they would have to get a special permit and we could put conditions on it," the planner (Tony) said, describing the goal of allowing larger operators or curated food-truck parks under controlled conditions.
Next steps: The commission agreed the change requires a public hearing and scheduled the hearing for the July 1 meeting; staff will circulate draft language ahead of that meeting. Commissioners discussed a one-year renewal cycle for special permits and the use of administrative renewals where no changes are proposed.
