Board accepts G&G Busing bid for route 8 amid fleet and cost discussion

Superintendent and transportation staff briefed the board on the district's bus-route bid process after the previous contractor's passing. They said one bid for route 8 was received from G&G Busing structured as a 4½-year contract because of current long lead times for new buses.
Staff proposed a transition that would keep route 7 as a corporation-run route and have G&G pick up route 8 starting in January, with Diane Mccclure continuing as the driver through the first half of next school year. The administration presented a bus-cost summary showing an estimated price for a new, basic bus of about $163,000 and discussed annual fuel, maintenance and insurance estimates; an annual insurance estimate per bus was given as $2,000–$2,500 depending on value and age.
Superintendent noted the district currently has one spare bus (No. 6) and that bid acceptance would return bus No. 12 after a semester, restoring spare capacity. The board moved to accept G&G Busing's bid for route 8; the motion passed by voice vote.
Board members discussed whether to purchase a new or used spare bus given limited trade-in values and the bus replacement plan that budgets annually for fleet renewal.
