District staff updated the Camdenton R-III school board on June 8 about participation, retention and local costs tied to the district’s career-ladder program.
The presenter said 258 staff members participated in the program during 2025–26. Of those, 20 plan to leave the district this year, seven of whom are retiring. Staff reported a reported retention rate of 91.8% among career-ladder participants and noted that districtwide certified-staff retention was about 90% (353 certified staff with 35 leaving).
Budget implications were a key focus. The presenter told the board the district will need to pay an additional local share (discussed in the meeting as approximately $137,000) to meet the district’s funding obligation above the state contribution, and said the district had already spent local funds toward program costs. Board members asked about the mechanics of reimbursements, timing and how retirements and leaves affect participation calculations.
The board also discussed program administration and the committee’s work to track participant hours and retention, and members said they expect more precise reimbursement figures to be reported to the board when available.
Why it matters: The program aims to support teacher professional growth and retention, but the district must budget the local share for continued participation, which affects staffing and general fund planning.
What’s next: Staff will provide reimbursement and final-cost figures as they are finalized and continue committee oversight of participation and retention trends.
