Board approves Humble Patty exterior improvements and outdoor dining with safety conditions

The Hinsdale Board of Trustees approved exterior improvements and a site plan to allow outdoor dining at two adjacent downtown properties to accommodate a new restaurant, Humble Patty, and allow continued seasonal outdoor dining at Fuller House.
Trustee Stifler summarized the Plan Commission and Historic Preservation Commission recommendations, noting the building is a contributing property in the downtown historic district and that both commissions had recommended approval with conditions. The project includes painting trim, new doors, string lights, and an east-side outdoor dining area for Humble Patty; Fuller House will retain and slightly modify its southern seasonal seating.
Plan Commission members recommended two outstanding items at first reading: (1) a long-term plan for bike rack placement in the downtown design and (2) a safety barrier between two parking spaces and the new L-shaped bench seating area. The applicant (Sam) agreed to engage a professional services firm to design a protective barrier (Jersey barriers, bollards, or similar), and the board required staff, the chair of the Plan Commission, and the chair of Zoning and Public Safety to approve that measure prior to issuing a certificate of occupancy.
Trustees approved the ordinance on a roll-call vote. The applicant said he aims to open by Labor Day and will work with staff to meet the safety and permitting conditions.
