Buffalo County Weed Board approves surplus of old sprayer after new tank installation; hears state presentation

The Buffalo County Weed Board unanimously approved routine procedural actions and voted to surplus an old spray truck at its March 13, 2025 meeting. Lee Sinkie, Buffalo County Weed Supervisor, called the meeting to order at 2:20 p.m. at the Brule County Ag Building in Pukwana and recorded attendance by Commissioner Donita Loudner and board members Rich Coleman and Jeff Fuegen.
Commissioner Donita Loudner moved to approve the meeting agenda, and Jeff Fuegen seconded; the motion passed with all voting Aye. Loudner then moved to approve the minutes of the previous meeting, seconded by Fuegen, and the board again voted unanimously in favor.
Sinkie reported that a new tank has been installed in the gravel spray truck, that the upgrade project is complete, and that Nutrien Solutions had been contacted to perform calibration. Rich Coleman moved to surplus the old spray truck; Fuegen seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. Sinkie said he will place a recommendation to sell the surplused truck on the next regular commission meeting agenda.
Sinkie also reported that the board has met all requirements for continued grant funding and is eligible for the next round of grant awards; the minutes do not specify the grant name or dollar amount. Sinkie and Joe Lopez were noted as attendees at the 2025 Weed and Pest conference in Huron in February.
The board heard a presentation from Jeremiah Phelps, Program Specialist with the South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources, on state and local noxious weeds and control methods. The minutes record no public comment or dissenting votes during the meeting.
The meeting was adjourned after a motion by Loudner, seconded by Fuegen. The minutes list the date of the next weed and pest board meeting as to be determined.
