St. Louis committee gives due-pass to pay increases for Collector of Revenue staff

Collector of Revenue Greg Daley introduced the measure, saying, "My name is Greg Daley. I'm the collector of revenue for the city of St. Louis," and describing the proposal as a routine city pay bill intended to provide raises to his office staff. Daley told the committee he takes "great pride" in his office and said the staff deserve the raises.
Committee members offered near-unanimous praise for the collector's office during the discussion. Vice Chair Browning said she appreciates the office's responsiveness and customer service, adding that Daley conducts taxing work "in a way that I don't think people mind paying them." An alderwoman who identified herself as the collector's constituent commended the office's role in administering a real estate tax assistance fund that she said has helped residents avoid displacement. Alderman Devotee called Daley a respected and well-liked tax collector and expressed support as well.
A motion to pass the bill with a due-pass recommendation was made by the alderwoman from the 7th and seconded; the clerk recorded aye votes from Alderman Sannier, Vice Chair Browning, Alderman Devotee and Chair Aldrick, producing a 4-0 tally. No public comment was offered on the bill.
Chair Aldrick and the alderwoman who introduced the bill asked to be listed as cosponsors. Committee members were also told to expect possible additional meetings to address board bill 1, which ENA is holding pending decisions on police and fire department parity and related raises; ENA has adopted the committee's amendments but has not returned bill 1 to the committee. The meeting adjourned with no further business.
What happens next: the committee gave board bill 8 a due-pass recommendation and will forward that recommendation according to the council's rules; the committee may reconvene to consider board bill 1 once ENA resolves outstanding issues. Public comment on board bill 8 was not received during this session.
