School committee hires Collins Center to lead superintendent search; timeline targets winter selection

The Boxborough school committee reported to the Select Board that it has selected the Collins Center at UMass Boston to conduct the district’s superintendent search.
Committee members said Collins was chosen after interviews with three search firms because of its process and ease of collaboration. The committee will form a search subcommittee, solicit community input, and work with Collins to set a timeline; members indicated a target announcement date of December or January, with an eye toward a July 1 start date for the new superintendent if availability allows. The committee also discussed options to retain overlap with the current superintendent to provide continuity.
The Collins Center will also be engaged to perform the district’s compensation study this year, increasing the consultant’s involvement in local hiring and human-resources work.
School committee leaders emphasized that the district has an experienced central-office team (finance and operations, HR, teaching-and-learning, special education, access and equity) to maintain operations through any transition.
