The Avon Community School Corp Board of School Trustees voted unanimously June 8 to approve Jennifer McCann Thomas as the next principal at Pine Tree, effective Jan. 4, 2027.
Superintendent Dr. Windham told the board the district ran a full search after Principal Mrs. Moyers announced her retirement at the end of the first semester. Dr. Windham said the district received 25 applicants, completed two interview rounds and a committee interview that included Pineree staff, parents, district leaders and other principals, and that McCann Thomas — currently the building’s assistant principal — was the consensus pick of every round. "I am really excited to recommend Mrs. Jennifer McCann Thomas as the next principal at Pineree," Dr. Windham said.
Board members moved and seconded the recommendation and carried the motion on a recorded voice/hand vote reported as 4–0 in favor. Board members offered congratulations and noted promotion from within reflects a strong internal pipeline; several trustees praised the incoming principal and thanked the retiring principal for her years of service.
McCann Thomas’s background, as presented to the board: five years as Pineree assistant principal, prior classroom and paraprofessional experience, a bachelor’s degree in Spanish from the University of Indianapolis, a master’s in teaching from Marian University, and completion of the urban principal program at IUPUI. Administration said the timing of the hire is intended to create a smooth midyear leadership transition.
The board’s action concludes the formal selection process; the district will implement the transition and administrative onboarding ahead of the January start date.
