Carroll County accepts building-code ordinance on first reading; proposal to payout sick time fails to advance

Carroll County Fiscal Court accepted a Building Code Program ordinance on first reading during the May 12 meeting after County Attorney Nick Marsh read the ordinance by summary. Magistrate Scott Nab moved to accept the first reading and Magistrate Clay Cable seconded; the court approved the reading unanimously. County Attorney Marsh said a contract would be signed after the ordinance’s second reading and final approval.
Earlier in the meeting Magistrate Nab moved to payout all remaining sick time for county employees; the motion did not receive a second. Magistrates Cable and Long said they could not support a payout, and the court did not proceed with the motion. The minutes record no vote on a payout because of the absence of a second.
The court also approved a transfer of surplus property requested by the County Coroner in a unanimous vote and received a radio tower update. The building-code ordinance remains at first-reading stage; the court indicated a contract associated with implementation would follow only after the second reading and approval.
