Magistrate Clay Cable moved to open the bids and the court voted 4–0 in favor. After the bids were read, Magistrate Scott Nab moved that EMA Director Mike Ratliff and Judge Executive David Wilhoite review both bids and present a recommendation at the next meeting; Magistrate Cable seconded and the motion passed 4–0.
Why it matters: the bids exceed $850,000 and would fund a countywide emergency notification system. The court did not award a contract at the meeting; it instead asked county emergency management staff and the judge to evaluate the offers and return with a recommendation.
County Attorney Nick Marsh read the sealed-bid totals into the record: "The first bid was from VEI in the amount of $852,975. The second bid was from Federal Signal Corporation in the amount of $854,180." EMA Director Mike Ratliff and Judge Wilhoite were asked to evaluate technical and funding considerations and report back.
