Mount Diablo Unified staff presented an AI task force update on June 10 that outlined an approach to AI literacy, ethical use and environmental sustainability.
The district's education-technology coordinator said the task force began meeting early in the school year and collected input through staff, student and community surveys. "We administered several surveys to our community members, to our students, to our staff, and the information that we got back was what grounded us and moved us forward in our inquiries," the presenter said.
Staff described deliverables that include a staff guidance document and a draft student guidance resource, an AI literacy scope-and-sequence by grade level, and an environmental sustainability statement evaluating data-center impacts. Presenters named partnerships with vendors such as Magic School and Brisk and said they sought to center equity and academic-integrity safeguards in any classroom use of AI.
Trustees thanked the presenter for making materials more readable for families and noted hyperlinks in the presentation that allow parents and staff to review documents online. Presenters encouraged questions after the meeting and asked the public to review posted materials and slides.
