Police Chief David Pernice told Council on June 25 that Erie County Detectives have agreed to fund overtime and provide 2–3 officers to increase coverage at the upcoming French Creek Festival. He reported speaking with Corry and Warren police about recent golf-scramble fundraising, saying Corry raised about $16,000 and Warren raised approximately $18,000–$20,000; he said he will check with UC Country Club for comparable figures.
Chief Pernice said he is completing a Civil Service background check expected to be done by July 5, 2024, and that he has been updating department policies with Lexipol. He indicated that the Solicitor must still review policy updates before the department finalizes them.
Council also discussed proposed amendments to the parking ordinance, including front-end/angled parking in Municipal Lot #2; Chief Pernice noted that License Plate Readers can search plates on the system and assist investigations. Council asked Streets Supervisor Bob Phillips to review the lot layout for angled parking. A zoning proposal to amend rules for small games of chance and permit pools in vacant adjoining lots was deferred until the Solicitor can attend the next meeting.
Council took no final action on ordinance or zoning language at the meeting and scheduled further discussion when Solicitor participation is available.
