Iowa DNR herbicide application reduced Crawford Pond vegetation by about 60%, WCCB told

Executive Director Zach Rozmus told the Washington County Conservation Board that the Iowa Department of Natural Resources applied an herbicide called Sonar to Crawford Pond in fall 2025 to combat curly-leaf pondweed, which had been interfering with shore fishing.
Rozmus said DNR monitoring over the winter months indicates about a 60% reduction in vegetation to date and that both the DNR and WCCB will continue to monitor conditions and could apply another round of herbicide in the coming fall.
The board did not vote on additional treatment at the meeting; Rozmus framed the report as a status update on an ongoing, DNR-led treatment and monitoring effort.
