At the start of its January 22 meeting, the Travelers Rest Planning Commission held a ballot election for chair and vice chair.
The commission confirmed Rebecca Cooper as chair and elected Richard Drew as vice chair; the chair announced both results as unanimous following a secret-ballot count.
Commissioners discussed the roles and responsibilities of the chair and vice chair and staff reminded new members of orientation requirements. Jay, city planning staff, encouraged in-person orientation for interaction but offered online options and said the city would cover orientation costs. Jay also said he would send links to the comprehensive plan and required orientation materials.
Why it matters: leadership positions determine who runs meetings and who steps in when the chair is absent; new members were reminded about limits on private ex parte contacts with applicants and the importance of relying on the code and comprehensive plan when evaluating rezones or subdivisions.
Next step: staff will circulate orientation links, the comprehensive plan and code resources for commissioners' review.
