Allsup playground ribbon cutting set for July 7; Reservoir and Murray playgrounds progressing

Graham, the staff lead for community events and outreach, said the ribbon cutting for the Allsup Playground and a nearby trail connection will be July 7 at 11 a.m. The commission asked staff to circulate the date by email to commissioners; staff said a calendar invite could not be issued but that they would send notice.
Justin, reporting on maintenance and construction coordination, said park playground installations are near completion in some locations: bench installation finished this morning at a recently completed park, and the department secured funding to add asphalt paving around one site. He said installers expected play structures to be finished within two to three weeks, but ADA and concrete work could delay final sidewalk completion by five to six weeks; the department’s realistic target for at least playable sidewalks and equipment remains around August.
Director Leland Couch and staff acknowledged staffing shortages and recent rain as factors slowing excavation and concrete work. Commissioners encouraged promotional outreach and attendance at the ribbon cutting. The department also announced cooling centers opening at Dunbar, Southwest and West Central community centers and upcoming registration for a new Trailblazers outdoor recreation camp.
