Select Board approves new transfer-station fees, attendant shed and credit-card payments planned

The Rondal Select Board approved changes to the town transfer-station fee schedule and operational procedures on June 8, setting a target effective date of Aug. 1 for the new rates and attendant system.
Public works presenter Ben told the board Arundel had been one of the cheapest nearby options and that the town was losing money on some disposals. He proposed raising the demolition-material charge from $40 to $60 per cubic yard, keeping metal disposal free because the town receives a credit for scrap, and retaining the asphalt-shingle fee at $45.50 given low volumes.
On Freon-containing appliances, Ben advised the current $20 charge was likely below contractor removal costs (he cited contractors charging $25–$40), and the board agreed to raise the appliance fee to $35. E-waste (televisions, computers) will remain at $20 per item. For tires, Ben recommended a size-based approach; the board approved a large-tire fee of $20 and a small-tire fee of $10.
To reduce misuse and improve collection, Ben recommended an attended gate configuration and a small shed for an attendant; estimated installation with power was roughly $3,500. The board asked staff to implement credit-card payments and a clear public notice campaign. A motion to approve the fee changes (with the two amendments noted above) and to set Aug. 1 as the effective date passed.
Ben said staff will post the new schedule, install signage, finalize payment systems and train attendants before the effective date.
