Public works outlines five-step plan to legalize Drazil Road; board OKs process, schedules hearing steps

Jeremy Morris and Ryan Hamilton of Public Works presented a summary of efforts to legalize Drazil Road on June 9, telling the Board the county has maintained the road for more than 35 years but that formal establishment documents are missing for most of the road. Morris and Hamilton said a small portion was legally established in 1911 and another portion has a deeded right-of-way; other stretches lack recorded establishment.
Hamilton outlined a five-step legalization process that includes preparing a report and survey, clearing the record, and setting a public hearing to receive and resolve public concerns. Staff noted that if the original establishment were strictly applied, existing utility poles and other utilities would encroach on private property, so legalization would explicitly include both the road and the utilities to clarify right-of-way boundaries.
The Board discussed the project's place among capital priorities; Jeremy Morris said legalization projects are scheduled around higher-priority capital work. The Board gave approval to continue the legalization process and directed staff to prepare the necessary report and map and to set a public hearing date to solicit public input.
