Salida council to ask voters whether to restrict summer vehicular access on F Street

The Salida City Council voted to place a question on the Nov. 4, 2025 ballot asking city voters whether the city should restrict vehicular access on F Street from Sacket Street south to the mid-200 block for a specified May–September period in 2026, 2027 and 2028.
Staff described the measure as a three-year, sunsetted question intended to let voters weigh whether the annual temporary pedestrian plaza should be continued and to provide a multi-year window for planning potential improvements. "This provides council the input from the voters and gives a sunset of three years that allows for planning to take place," staff said.
Council members who supported the resolution said putting the question to voters would settle a recurring annual debate and allow future councils and business groups to plan any physical investments. Several local business representatives had previously expressed concerns about impacts on downtown commerce; proponents said a multi-year public decision would allow for a thoughtful plan and community buy-in.
The motion to approve Resolution 2025-38 carried unanimously.
