Salida schools report strong SPF results but flag academic growth and matriculation for improvement

Dr Blackburn presented the district’s School Performance Framework packet and said the district is accredited, while noting academic growth remains a key area for improvement at the high school. He highlighted exceptional growth and achievement at several schools, including Longfellow elementary, and said principals plan targeted professional development in math and instruction.
District staff cautioned that matriculation (postsecondary enrollment) data is lagged and can undercount students in concurrent-enrollment programs because of how external databases record students. "The matriculation data is not for the class of 2024; it's for the class of 2023," staff said, noting the first look at the most recent graduate cohort will appear in the next SPF cycle.
Presenters explained that state assessments and readiness measures differ: CMAS results use set cut scores while PSAT scoring is periodically normed, and growth metrics (comparing like students statewide) can be more informative than single-year proficiency percentages. Board members asked whether test results correlate with classroom grades; staff said correlation is imperfect and that tests are one of several data points used to guide instruction.
On enrollment, David presented preliminary October-count numbers showing about 32 additional K–12 students compared with the prior year (numbers not finalized). He said the district will finalize the master facility plan next month and monitor facility impacts as enrollment stabilizes.
