The Michigan City Redevelopment Commission approved a facade grant reimbursement of $21,836.25 for Lakeshore Coffee's project at 444 Wabash Street during its June 8 meeting.
Owner Annie Gustin told the commission the project will rebuild and expand the front deck so customers can be seated again in front of the restaurant, construct a pergola in the rear seating area and add planters to improve the site's appearance. Total project cost is $36,393.78; the facade program covers up to 60% of eligible costs, capped at $30,000, which equates to the approved reimbursement of $21,836.25.
Gustin said she has operated at the location for decades and that the improvements will make the space more inviting. Commissioners approved the reimbursement by voice vote with no opposition recorded.
Staff noted the application complied with the historic review board adjustments and that the project will proceed with required reviews.
