That rejection left Reith Riley as the lowest responsible bidder; the board of works awarded the contract to Reith Riley on May 18 and the redevelopment commission approved the expenditure at its June 8 meeting.
Laughlin told the commission the project design was already complete and the city had previously committed to finishing the roadway as part of earlier development agreements tied to adjacent buildings. The approved contract amount is $510,837.72.
Commissioners were told the board of works and city engineer reviewed the bids and determined the responsible-bidder standards were not met by the disqualified contractor. The redevelopment commission recorded the motion to fund construction by voice vote with no opposition noted.
Next steps include final contract execution and construction scheduling through the board of works and the city engineering office.
