Shia Kosik, a life scout with Troop 170 and a Farmington High School student, presented an Eagle Scout site plan on June 8 to install an interpretive kiosk and a bike rack near Depot Place.
Kosik described the kiosk as a weather-protected panel approximately 36 inches by 24 inches mounted on steel tubing with a concrete footing about 20 inches deep; the overall kiosk height was described at roughly 72 inches. The bike rack will be purchased from SB Design Labs; Kosik estimated its cost at about $550 including tax and said Farmington Displays will help design the kiosk's informational panel.
Commissioners asked technical questions about footing depth, corrosion resistance and clearance from the trail. Kosik said the steel tubing is 6013 aluminum alloy (he cited online longevity estimates of 20 to 50 years) and that the kiosk and rack would be set two to three feet off the sidewalk so they would not impede trail users. Commissioners recommended concrete pads under the rack for durability and urged Kosik to confirm final materials and dimensions with town staff.
After questions and brief discussion, a commissioner moved to approve the site-plan application as presented. The commission voted to approve the Eagle Scout project, and members congratulated Kosik and encouraged him to coordinate final design, fabrication and placement with town staff and Farmington Displays.
Kosik said his next steps are to refine the presentation per the commission's feedback, confirm materials with vendors, and seek donations or in-kind support from partners. The commission recorded no formal conditions beyond standard town coordination and permitting.
The commission's approval allows Kosik to proceed with final permitting and construction in coordination with the town.
