The briefing also highlighted that the high commissioner for human rights launched a Global Alliance for Human Rights anchored in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. UNHCR's Global Trends report was cited as showing a 3% decline in total global refugee numbers in 2025 to an estimated 41.6 million, while noting many returns may have occurred under pressure and long-term displacement remains a concern.
The spokesperson additionally noted agency announcements: WFP named a Danish chef as a new goodwill ambassador to spotlight WFP's work on hunger (the transcript gives a name whose spelling is unclear), and UNICEF appointed an 18-year-old footballer as a goodwill ambassador to champion every child's right to play.
